The course came through the winter in great shape. Heavy rains in December and January had us pulling green covers and staging them just in case, but mild weather meant they’re now tucked away for a summer nap.
We did lose about nine trees to pine bark beetle infestations and windstorms over the winter. Most fell along the perimeter and won’t impact playability. One tree on 17 tee actually opens the door to combine two smaller orange tees into one larger teeing area — that project kicks off in April.
Early Spring Course Care
Grass plants are still dormant and won’t recover until soil temperatures hit 50 degrees. We’re moving tee markers to non-traditional locations to reduce wear on regular teeing areas in the meantime. Here’s how you can help:
- Keep carts on paths as much as possible
- Avoid thin turf and wet areas with carts
- Replace divots if soil is attached
- Fill shallow divots with the sand and seed mixture provided
- Keep carts away from greens and tees
- Fix your ball marks on the greens
Current Projects
Orange Tee Expansion (Hole #17)
More than doubling the teeing surface. Shaping begins in early April, sod arriving later in the month.
Patio Lawn and Landscaping
Turf health, irrigation, and landscaping modernization adjacent to the #1 tee. Completion expected in April.
Bunker Sand
125 yards of fresh sand headed to the bunkers before May, road restrictions permitting.
Cart Path Repairs (Holes 10 – 15)
Several hundred linear feet of broken concrete being replaced. Work planned around the golf schedule, with concrete poured on Mondays and affected holes closed briefly during curing.
Water Bottle Filling Stations
All five basalt bases being replaced with granite pillars by Nolan Newman of Newman Construction. Watch for work areas on the course.
Thatch Management
New vertical mowing reels added to the fairway mower fleet. Verticutting will run throughout the growing season to improve firmness, playability, and overall fairway health.
